Assemblyman Skoufis visits NFA Debate classes
"If you're in government for the right reason, there is a huge opportunity to make a positive impact." New York State Assemblyman, James Skoufis
Assemblyman James Skoufis visited NFA Main this week to speak with Ms. Formato-Santo’s Debate classes and the NFA Debate Team. He spoke about his role in government with a focus on the role that debate has in his position. "When debating, I think about my thoughts and ideas to prepare responses, but I also spend a lot of time anticipating what questions are going to be asked and formulate responses to those as well." New York State Assemblyman, James Skoufis
The Assemblyman answered several questions from students that covered a wide range of topics. Where did you go to college? What inspired you to go into this field? What is your daily life like? If your bill gets vetoed, how long do you have to introduce it again? What are your future plans in government? What are you most proud of accomplishing?
New York State Assemblyman James Skoufis is the youngest currently-serving state legislator in New York. He began is career in government by running for a vacancy on his local town board. Then the opportunity to run for assemblyman, which he ran for and was elected. He encouraged the NFA Debate students to have a good idea of where they want to go, but to also be open to opportunities as they arise.
