Summer 2024 Grocery Benefits for Eligible Families
Summer 2024 Grocery Benefits for Eligible Families:
Grocery benefits will be available to eligible families with school-age children during summer break.
May 29, 2024
Dear Newburgh Enlarged City School District Families:
In Summer 2024, New York State will implement Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) Sun Bucks. This new federal program will help families purchase food over the summer when school is out of session and children can no longer rely on access to free/reduced-price school meals. The new program is in addition to free meals that children ages 18 and younger can get at summer meal sites in their communities.
If your children are not currently receiving free or reduced meals - a new meal application can be completed to determine your eligibility through July 31st, 2024 by visiting https://otda.ny.gov/programs/summer-ebt/ . Summer EBT food benefits will not be issued before July 2024. New York State is working to finalize a timeline for when the food benefits will be issued. Eligible children will receive benefits at different times, depending on whether they attend public or private school, and whether they receive benefits automatically or if they are determined eligible through an application.
Each family will receive $120 for each eligible school-aged child on a card that can be used to buy food during the summer at grocery stores, farmers markets, and other authorized retailers. Summer EBT (SUN Bucks) will be mailed to you from NY State or loaded on your current EBT card. Not all children will receive the benefit card on the same day. If you receive duplicate cards or more than $120 per eligible child in your household, do not use the benefits.
In addition to Summer EBT (Sun Bucks) any children under 18 years of age in your household can receive free meals during the summer at a summer meal site. Visit the www.NewburghSchools.org website and the Newburgh School Food Services page for more information on local summer meal sites.
Sincerely,
Donna M. Jackson
