Dear NECSD students, families, faculty, and staff,
We are writing to remind all families of the importance of staying up to date with routine vaccinations for school-aged children. Immunizations are a critical part of keeping our school community healthy and safe from preventable diseases.
Recently, three cases of measles have been confirmed in Orange County, NY. While we are not currently aware of any cases within our schools or immediate area, this serves as an important reminder of how quickly illnesses like measles can spread, especially in school environments where students are in close contact throughout the day. Under New York State law, the measles vaccination is a required immunization to enter school.
Vaccines are one of the most effective tools we have to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough, and more. Ensuring your child is fully vaccinated not only protects them but also helps protect classmates, teachers, and staff, including those who may be medically unable to receive certain vaccines. As a reminder, the NYS immunization requirement schedule can be found at the bottom of our Health Services page on the district website.
We encourage all families to review their child’s vaccination records and consult with their healthcare provider if any updates are needed. If you have questions about New York State’s immunization requirements for school attendance, please contact our school nurse or visit the NYS Department of Health website for more information.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our school safe and healthy.
