Hello GOLDBACK Families,
Newburgh GEAR UP has been working diligently over the last 2 1/2 years to provide our class of 2028 and their families with opportunities and experiences they would not otherwise be afforded. We provide a safe space for our scholars to learn and mature. Students and families who actively participate are seeing a shift in the focus towards a brighter future. We are actively seeking more ways to offer supports for our scholars through colleges, community partners, and career exploration. In order to continue to provide these amazing experiences for our GEAR UP scholars/families through 2028, we are going to need YOUR help:
Act Now to #StandUp4GEARUP
The future of GEAR UP is at a defining moment. As part of the 2026 budget proposal, the White House has called for the elimination of key federally funded education programs, including GEAR UP. While this proposal marks the beginning of the appropriations process, Congress ultimately holds the power to decide the outcome.
Now, more than ever, we must come together to advocate for the continuation of this vital program. Whether you’re a director, a GEAR UP professional, or a member of a GEAR UP family, there is a place for you in this movement to #StandUp4GEARUP.
- Contact Congress: Use our action center to urge elected officials to support GEAR UP funding. Please see NYGEAR UP Call to Action Instructions for details on how to submit letter.
- PLEASE alert former Gear Up students, this is extremely important. Sign the Alumni Letter: in partnership with the GEAR UP Alumni Association, encourage your college students (18+) and alumni to add their name to a national letter calling for full GEAR UP funding. Signatures will be accepted through May 27, 2025.
- Share Your Story: Post on social media with #StandUp4GEARUP to highlight GEAR UP’s impact.
- Involve your family and friends – ask them to reach out to their Congressional Representatives and to share on social media.
